Medical & GP Services Available At Dr. Deas Family Practice

 
 

General Practice Services:

All the usual services you would expect from a General Practice. From dealing with a cough and cold through to assessment of some symptoms that you have had for some time that are worrying you.


Blood Tests:

If after discussion with the doctor you require blood tests. These can be taken in the practice. Blood Testing appointments are available every morning, Monday to Friday.


ECGs:

If after discussion with the doctor you require an ECG (recording of the electricity running through your heart). These can be taken in the practice. ECG appointments are available every morning, Monday to Friday.

We do not charge for ECGs for patients with a Medical Card.


24 Hour Blood Pressure Monitor:

If after discussion with the doctor you require 24 Hour Blood Pressure Monitoring. These can be fitted in the practice, taken home for the day and then returned to the practice for evaluation.

Private 24 Hour Blood Pressure Monitoring appointments are available every morning, Monday to Thursday. The charge is €40.


Lung Function Tests:

If after discussion with the doctor you require Lung Function Tests. These can be taken in the practice. Lung Function Tests appointments are available every morning, Monday to Friday. For more information on stopping smoking follow the HSE Give Up Smoking website link on our Useful info Page.


Cervical Smears:

The practice is registered with the National CervicalCheck™ Programme. We can check if you are due a smear under the programme. The Practice Nurse can check your cervical smear. Appointments for smears are available every morning Monday to Friday. Lunchtime appointments are also available.

Sexually Transmitted Infection Screening:

If after discussion with the doctor you require Screening for Sexually Transmitted Infections. Tests can be made to help pick up any infections. The results and any advice or management can then be discussed with you at a follow up appointment. Women are asked if they could book a combined appointment with both the doctor and nurse.


Family Planning:

We offer a range of contraceptive methods. Including the Mirena Coil™ and the Implanon™ Contraceptive Implant. For more information on contraception follow the HSE Contraception Website link on our Useful Info page.

We do not charge for Mirena Coil™ insertion and removal for patients with a Medical Card.


Antenatal Care:

This consists of 7 regular visits to the GP and hospital obstetric department visits through your pregnancy. Also after birth a 2 week appointment for the child and a 6 week appointment for mother and child with the GP. 

Antenatal Care is available free of charge to ALL patients under the government Maternity and Infant Care Scheme.


Cryotherapy:

Skin lesions such as warts and verrucas can be treated by the application of extreme cold to the lesion. This usually takes a course of treatment to successfully remove the lesion. Appointments are available with the doctor.

We do not charge for Cryotherapy for patients with a Medical Card. Cryotherapy is often covered by health insurance. We are registered with Aviva and Laya(Quinn) medical Insurers.


Joint Injections:

If after discussion with the doctor you require a Joint Injection. Often this can be carried out within the practice by the doctor.

Many procedures are covered by health insurance. We are registered with Aviva and Laya(Quinn) medical Insurers.


Minor Surgery:

If after discussion with the doctor you require Minor Surgery. Often this can be carried out within the practice by the doctor.

Diabetic Clinic:

Regular Diabetic Clinics are run at the practice. At these clinics detailed assessment of your diabetes will be made and advice and treatment to optimize your diabetic control given. For more information on Diabetes follow the Diabetes Federation of Ireland Website link on our Useful Info page.


Respiratory Disease Clinic:

Asthma and COPD Clinics are run at the practice. At these clinics detailed assessment of your Asthma and COPD will be made and advice and treatment to optimize your control given. Cholesterol Clinic:

Cholesterol Clinics are run at the practice. At these clinics detailed assessment of your cholesterol levels will be made and advice and treatment to optimize your levels given.


Driving Medicals:

If the RSA requires a medical examination to be undertaken in order to gain or maintain your driving licence. These can be performed at the practice and the completed Driving Medical Form D501 issued. 

Driving Medicals are NOT covered by the Medical Card the fee for the medical is €25.


Travel Vaccinations:

Assessment of the travel vaccinations you require and administration of those vaccines can often be performed in the practice. Please ask at reception for a Pre-Travel Questionnaire to be returned prior to your appointment. Travel vaccines can be arranged to be bought through the practice at a reduced cost. If you are traveling in Europe don't forget to take your European Health Insurance Card with you. 

Travel Vaccinations are NOT covered by the Medical Card the fee for the assessment for and administration of Travel Vaccinations is €60.


Pre-employment & Insurance Medicals:

Detailed medicals for the purpose of employment and insurance can be performed in the practice.

These medicals are NOT covered by the Medical Card the fee for these medicals is determined by the detail required to complete them. Fees range from €60 to €150.


Executive Health Screening:

Executive Health Screening offers a more detailed assessment of those who presently are feeling well. The aim is to screen for serious but treatable diseases such as prostate cancer and certain lung diseases. Also the medical uses complex risk engines (as used in the over 40 Health Check in England and by the World Health Organisation) to identify those who are at high personal risk of developing future serious diseases such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and certain types of kidney disease and osteoporosis. Such high risk patients can then take action to reduce their risk before getting such diseases. 

These medicals are NOT covered by the Medical Card the fee for these medicals is €150. A detailed report is supplied to the patient on completion.
